Hosts File Modification Method
Hosts file is a computer file used by the operating system to map hostnames to IP addresses. Hosts file is a plain text file sebuat (plain-text) and name the file called 'hosts'.
Usability.
Hosts file is one of the facilities of some systems to assist in dealing addressing points (nodes) on a computer network. This is part of an implementation of the operating system Internet Protocol (IP), and serves the function of translating hostnames to understand the human (human-friendly hostnames) to the numerical address protocol, called IP addresses, which identify and find a host within the IP network.
In some operating systems, hosts file content is used for other methods, such as Domain Name System (DNS). But many systems implement the name service switches (eg: nsswitch.conf) to provide customization. In contrast to DNS, hosts file is under the direct control of the local computer administrator.
Contents File.
Hosts file contains a line of text that consists of an IP address in the text first followed by one or more hostnames. Each field is separated by a space. Line comments can be added by adding a hash character (#) positioned the first row. Here's an example:
# This is a sample hosts file contents
127.0.0.1 localhost loopback
:: 1 localhost
The example above is an example of the contents of the default hosts file, example illustrates that the IP address may have multiple hostnames, and that the host name can be mapped to multiple IP addresses.

If I personally still in love to the notepad + + which provides all the conveniences. However, if you are pressed for time, do not hurt you to use the more sophisticated text editor again.
Some tips in choosing a text editor is as follows (my version as the developer beginner)
Lightweight and Effective. Yes, we need a text editor that can run a mild course, but also effective. Thereby increasing the performance of our work as a Developer
Syntax Highlighter. Perhaps this excess of Dreamweaver. Yes, in DW there are syntax highlighters that can easy us to find the source code without the need to ask here and there. While Notepad + +, not to support this.
Those are some tips I can give to you the novice developer. Once again, all back to yourself matched against particular text editor software. Think back to Software text editor if that fits you.
